FP Times World Test Kitchen Headquarters: Dish Of The Week

Above you see pictured one of our many meals prepared at the FP Times World Test Kitchen Headquarters - which is actually located 2000 feet below the earth. Here we took chicken tenders from Albertson's and sliced them up over a nice bed of lettuce and topped with ranch dressing. The bread on the side is called "Texas Toast" and is a cheesy oven baked bread. Everyone here on the staff tried a sample and think we have stumbled upon an easy, affordable home-made meal that you can have pride in making and eating. Challenge: meet it or beat it - what you got? Send me your JPG's or post your comments below.

Dish Of The Week:
Jamaican Jerk(ed) Chicken

Pictured above is our featured chicken dish of the week: Jamaican Jerk(ed) Chicken. This wonderfully jerk spiced chicken is best prepared in a pot and will come out with some sauce surrounding your pueces of chicken meat. Generally it is served spicy hot with jalapeno or habanero peppers in the sauce. "Allspice" the Jamaican pepper is the standard spice used for flavor then there are variations of other spices added as well. We have also heard rumors that there is now a pre-made spicing kit to make this dish now available. We have assigned one member of The Fat Pride Times staff to investigate this specifically and should have more info soon. Please no comments that the picture looks nasty - it is certainly not.

The New Cheetos Can:
Why Is It Not Full When Opened?

A staff member here purchased the new Cheetos in the can - similar to a Pringles can. However, as the images above document it was only filled to maybe 2/3 of the cannister. We all have seen the "product may settle during shipping" line on many packaged foodstuffs, but we here are taking exception to these new Cheetos Cans due to this.

Breaking News: Cheetos Recipe Stolen According to The Cheesy Tribune

Upon our latest purchase of Cheetos cheese flavored snacks we noticed upon the front an image of Chester holding up the front page of the Cheesy Tribune. Headline: Cheetos Recipe Stolen. Apparently, we as individuals can help solve teh crime by buying bags and doing puzzles on back and then going to the website. We are just assembling this info and updated post will follow shortly with more info.

"Fat Man Walking" Influenced Hiatus Is Over

After reading about the "Fat Man Walking" across the United States, the staff here decided we needed some time away to reflect on things. We did some bulk eating and deep thinking. The conclusion reached is that food is good. Hiatus is now over and the posting will now resume. Thanks for your continued support.

The Fat Man Walking

While we are not breaking this story, we must take a moment and acknowledge this man's personal achievement. The Fat Man is Steve Vaught and he walked across the United States. He left Oceanside, CA on foot and today he will walk into New York City. The distance is estimated at almost 3000 miles total. Why did Steve do this? Please visit his website and all will be revealed.

The Rice and Ketchup Entree
By Dragonier Zapp

One of our readers was kind enough to pass on this interesting recipe - it sounds very good to the staff here and we intend to prepare it shortly. Below is the actual submission from Mr.Zapp: How to Make the Rice and Ketchup Entree, By Dragonier Zapp, who is appearantly an idiotic fool in the posting (and eating) of such a dish. 1 Pound Hamburger 1-2 Diced Onions *Optional* 2-3 Cups of Rice 4-6 Cups of Water *Must be twice the amount of Rice* One Big bottle of Ketchup! Big Frying Pan Smallish sauce pan First, take One Pound of Hamburger *and Onions if wanted* and brown it in Frying Pan. Mix Rice with Water in Smallish sauce pan, and let rest until boils. Then, turn down to Medium Heat, and let sit for 10 minutes, or until rice is tender, whichever comes first. Afterwards, Mix Rice and Hamburger into a bowl (preferably a Mixing Bowl the size of Texas) And add Ketchup to lightly cover the rice. Serves a bunch of people, Serving Size: Whatever. Add whatever you feel as a Garnish to the mix. Personal perfered are: Soy Sauce, Parmesan Cheeze, and Salsa Warning: This stuff does taste good.

The Best Albertson's
Chicken Tenders Ever

On a recent trip to Albertson's Market we must have had perfect timing as the chicken tenders were absolutely the best bag ever - and the staff here has bought 100's of bags over the past year. Enjoy the above photos - Grade A work!

CAREFUL WITH:
Zip-Loc Fresh Express
Salad Bags

The staff here has written up a consumer warning release regarding Fresh Express pre-washed salad bags with the zip-loc strip. When opening this lettuce bag, move slowly - if you just rip it across the air will spooge out and the results are a loud sound very similar to someone passing gas. Embarassing with company around.

Twisted Cheetos - My God
They Are Huge Man!

One of our staff came back from the market with a bag of "Twisted" Cheetos and my god man - these things are huge. The size makes them unpractical and we are not endorsing them at this time.

The Ju Ju Fish:
How & When Not To Eat Them

Last night, after properly cleaning my foodholes I got back to my room and somehow got sidetracked and started to eat more of the Ju Ju fish. This is not advised. I went to sleep soon after. What followed was a night of lucid dreaming that I was a Ju Ju fish and was swimming around all that. In addition, you will wake with a mouth that is so dry and jellied-up that only about 4 Diet Cokes will take away. Ju Ju fish are an excellent foodstuff, but you will want to follow the above eating guidelines.

Sunday Night Big Bender:
The Final Meal

After enjoying a nice food-filled weekend - it was decided by the staff that we should end this week's bender with a generous portion of foodstuffs. We all believe that Sunday nights are made for eating and try to do it up right.

Friday Night Frozen Pizza Issues

After a hard day's work here at The Fat Pride Times, the staff here decided to cook-off this frozen Albertson's BBQ Chicken Pizza. Problem is we spaced out for a few minutes and it appears overcooked. We are not sure if we should eat it - please compare to the picture from the box and comment below regarding edibility opinions. Top picture is from the box - pix below it are what ours ended up like.

We here at the Fat Pride Times decided to go old school style and make up an American classic: Meatloaf and Baked Potatoes. Nuff Said.

The Sunday Big Burger Feedbag

After yesterdays lame feedbag post, we decided to go stright down to the local Carl's Jr. and get a burger bag. I apoligize for approving the post of the feedbag from yesterday, it really is not Fat Pride Times quality. Pictured below is a sample of the many may burgers our staff purchased. FYI: the sourdough bacon cheeseburger is pretty good, the 'big burgers' are grade b level. Once again, the lesson appears: if it costs under a dollar (.99 cents) - it is not truly food.

Saturday Feedbag: Hot Pockets - Cabbage - Corn - Soup

Saturday evenings feedbag was rather weak by FPT standards. Cabbage salad with red onion and yellow corn, Chunky Soup, and Hot Pockets Chicken Quesidillas. The reason for the lack of some bird is this feedbag was assembled without a store run.

Friday's Feedbag Contents: From Bird to Ju Ju Fish

As part of the new format we are installing here, this will be a daily post displaying just what we are filling our feedbags with here at the home offices. Tonight, we started with a salad with red onion and ranch and a bowl of puffed Cheetos. Next we moved on to four crispy chicken strips, once again using the ranch dressing for dippings. Of course, we were quaffing Diet Coke over ice with everything. After the bird settled down, we topped it off with Ju Ju Fish and M & M peanut butter bars. Not pictured is the half gallon of caramel fudge Dreyer's ice cream that will be consumed immediately before slipping into the night fog.

Once Again - The Amazing Ju Ju Fish

These Albertson's knock-offs of Swedish Fish are hard to get. As soon as they re-stock them it seems they are gone the next day. Suggestion: buy three bags if possible. Priced fairly at 1.49 per bag.

Oregon's FAT PDX & F.A.T.A.S.S.
Cheerleader Squad

In Portland, Oregon USA there is an organization titled FAT (fat action troupe) that fights the discrimination and prejudice against people of larger girths. They were founded in 2003 and are composed of mostly women, but some men as well. In addition to defending 'fat rights' they have created a sub-group called The Fat Action Troupe AllStar Spirit Squad (f.a.t.a.s.s.) that dresses in full chearleader gear and performs some very enthustiac shows.

You have to see their site for more info: FAT PDX - F.A.T.A.S.S Homepage

After a long weekend of NCAA Basketball Tournament games, one of our readers enjoyed the above burger and says: "This is a burger that I whipped up after a day of watching (and losing money) NCAA basketball. not much to it, some ground beef made into patty's. some bacon, onions and a can of your favorite chilli. I had sliced cheese for the burgers and grated cheese for the top. good stuff!!"

White Chocolate Reeses
& Hershey's Syrup
Ice Cream Sundae

The staff pulled a late shift last night here at The Fat Pride Times Test Kitchen doing research upon a variety of lobster that is covered in hair. Finding good information was not easy but a related post will sonn be up. After we broke for the night, we made a tray of ice cream sundaes. These were not the basic model as the pictures show they were sporting White Chocolate Reese's Cups and Hershey's Syrup. We stand behind this sundae as one that is hard to beat in content and enjoyment. Think you can do better, thats fine, send me your jpg and we will let the public readership decide. Better bring something wicked to the table if you try, cause this one is top-tier.

Mickey's Big Mouth Beer Cap
Puzzle Contest Is On

One of our readers shared a cap from a Mickey's Big Mouth beer bottle that has, as they all do, one of those image to words puzzle. The three pictures can be ascribed to match a phrase or string of words. The staff here has no clue on this one. First reader to post a comment with the correct answer will win a huge page of Arby's coupons.

Reader Recommends:
LaSpada's Original Hoagies

One of our readers has found a sandwich shop so damn good, he was inspired to share the above photo of his meal with us. This place carves its meat as ordered per sandwich - the one above was so stuffed with fixins the preparer had to use an extra slice of turky to hold it all together. There are three locations, all in Florida. Their website is:

Best Spaghetti Recipe
On This Planet? Perhaps

One of our loyal readers has sent us what may very well be the best spaghetti recipe on this planet, here it is in total: OK, I make some of the best spaghetti on the planet from scratch,
and it doesn't even take long. INGREDIENTS: Two or three pounds of hamburger (or if you'd rather, crumbled Italian Sausage, my favorite)
One nice-sized wedge of Romano cheese (NOT Parmesan)
One large or two small yellow onions, chopped
One green or red pepper (your choice), chopped
Two big cans of tomato puree
One big can of diced tomatoes (or whole tomatoes which you then cut up)
about 3/4 cup sugar
Palmful of salt (not the entire palm, but the center of it, and not too high, about two tablespoons I guess)
three or four nice-sized garlic cloves
Basil - Thyme - Rosemary - Oregano
DIRECTIONS: OK, brown your hamburger or sausage. If you don't know how to do that, kill yourself. When the hamburger or sausage is half cooked, drain grease (but not ALL of it), then put in garlic, onions, and pepper and saute for a bit. Sprinkle all seasonings on top of cooking hamburger, that is the basil, oregano, thyme, and rosemary (note: not too much oregano, contrary to popular belief, just a pinch or so - lots of basil (this will be your main seasoning, it smells a bit like tea) - modest amounts of thyme, and a bit less of rosemary, although add all seasonings to your taste)

Add all tomato stuff, puree and diced. If not enough sauce, add an additional can of diced tomatoes. Ontop of the sauce, sprinkle more of all four seasonings, making sure not to add too much oregano (if you do this, it will ruin the flavor of your sauce - you can afford to add a bit too much of the other three). One way to tell how much to add, is you want to add each spice individually liberally covering the top of the sauce (peppered covered, I mean, not solid). Mix that spice into the sauce, then add the next one the same way. Do this for everything BUT the Oregano and Rosemary. Just a pinch of Oregano, and about three pinches of Rosemary.

Cook sauce for a bit, about ten minutes or so. You want to see pieces of all the seasonings in all parts of the sauce, some in every spoonful. Add salt and sugar. If you have some garlic powder, you can throw a bit in, but not too much. It just depends on how the sauce tastes.

After the sauce is bubbling and has been cooking awhile, grate half of the wedge of Romano cheese and add it to the sauce slowly. You want to avoid a big glop of cheese sitting in the middle. Stir in cheese well.

Cook for a bit, about another half hour or longer, depending on how long you would like to simmer it. It can be simmered quite a while, but check to make sure you don't burn your sauce at the bottom.

VERY IMPORTANT: Taste your sauce in all processes. Your taste will tell you what to do. This is probably the most important skill a cook can aquire. This sauce will taste excellent right away, but will be even better the next day when all the spices fuse with it. Hope you like it. Roary Albuquerque, NM ferretphilosophy.blogspot.com

It Was A Hiatus - Not A Bender

I personally have been on a food-eating hiatus, so the offices have been locked down since I started - sorry for the lack of posts. However, a Hiatus is different than a bender. A hiautus lasts about 3-4 days, a bender can be as long as 14 days. Above are some of my foodstuffs I consumed lately. More posts coming soon - an international post has come in via email as well!

The One True Bagel - Tasty Bagel Works
Claremont, California

Pictured above is what the Fat Pride Times considers to be the perfect bagel. This jalapeno and cheese bagel came from Tasty Bagel Works in Claremont, California. This place makes them them just perfect. Lightly crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Why people make bagels any other way is not rational. No one on the staff here has found a bagel maker to match Tasty Bagel Works - they stand alone.

New Reader From China!
We May Have Passed Their Filters.

The staff was studying our site traffic today and there it was, a webpage hit from China! I suppose this means we have passed their filters and can share our love of foodstuffs with the Chinese people, or it was their government looking at our site and adding it to the 'no view' filter. We will wait and see.

First-Person Eater Video
The McMuffin

We got a sack of Mcmuffins from McDonald's this morning for the office crew and then decided to attempt a video in 'first person' style, like a 'first person shooter' video game. This video is supposed to look and feel like it is you macking on the sandwich. The staff here is divided on how it looks but we are gonna stream it and ask for your input. The First Annual Pacific Northwest Symposium on Cheese at Lewis & Clark College in Oregon

There is a cheese club at Lewis & Clark College and yesterday they held their biggest gathering, the "Pacific Northwest Symposium on Cheese". Founded by sophomore student Brandon Wiebe, the club has held previous smaller cheese fests with over 100 people attending (free cheese). The Symposium was free and open to the public. This event offered more than just free tastes of international cheeses - they held "Cheese 101" which was a history/information lesson on the subject, this was folowed by "Cheese & The Liberal Arts" - a panel discussion of cheesemakers viewing the foodstuff from many intellectual perspectives. This was a truly tasteful event, and congatulations to Mr. Wiebe and his club officers on their success!

Albertson's Service Deli Chicken Tenders

The staff here had some chicken tenders from Albertsons Market for lunch yesterday and thought we would share the above photos with all of you. Nice product at a nice price (that bag has two more inside of it). The ones above are the spicy version, they also have a crispy one that is covered in crunchy batter. A dipping sauce is recommended for full enjoyment. The Bird, once again, is the word. Upon doing some product research for our new file on this foodstuff we found that Albertsons uses "irradiated meat". This can be both good and bad it seems - follow up post on this issue after more research.

The Computer Now Tracks Children's Diet For Parents.....Who Is Next?

The FP Times has just been forwarded a shocking email that reveals software has been written that 'tracks' a child's foodstuffs received in school cafeterias. Primero Food Service Solutions, developed by Houston-based Cybersoft Technologies, sets up prepaid accounts and monitors what is chosen and if it is allowed. Big Brother is now tapping into what you put into your pie-hole. From AP: " A student slides a tray toward the cafeteria cash register with a healthy selection: a pint of milk, green beans, whipped sweet potatoes and chicken nuggets — baked, not fried. But then he adds a fudge brownie - When he punches in his code for the prepaid account his parents set up, a warning sounds: 'This student has a food restriction.' - Back goes the brownie as the cashier reminds him that his parents have declared all desserts off-limits". Most of you reading this can now look back fondly when we were children and chose chocolate milk and doritos for lunch.
