Pepsi Max: Questions Answered

The staff here has located the history of Pepsi Max via Wikipedia.com. Here is the info from their website:

Pepsi Max debuted in Great Britain and Italy in April of 1993. The rollout was expanded to Ireland the following September, and to France, the Netherlands and Australia the following December. By the end of 1994, Pepsi Max was sold in approximately twenty countries. By the end of 1995, that figure had more than doubled.

The product remains unavailable in the United States (PepsiCo's native market, and the largest consumer of carbonated soft drinks), where one of its principle ingredients had not yet been approved by the Food and Drug Administration. The ingredient in question "acesulfame potassium" is combined with aspartame to provide the beverage's sweetness. Some people claim that this results in a better taste than that of other diet colas (most of which are sweetened with aspartame alone).

Barnabus Surf & Turf Special

Reader Barnabus comes thru again with another outstanding contribution.

"Prepared surf-n-turf for myself and the wife tonight. I had the lobster, while she had the shrimps. We both had aged black angus beef, prepared medium rare. No real recipe, just say it's all about timing. Get a nice hot fire going, then put your seafood on over foil about 10 minutes before you throw the steak on, directly over the flames (the lobster was boiled in water and rock salt for 8 minutes prior to being grilled)."

U.K. Reader Goes On Bender: Forgets To Eat

One of our international readers from the United Kingdom went on a bender last week and fell asleep with fresh food sitting right out. When he finally awoke, it had spoiled. The staff at The FatPride Times is very disappointed in his behavior, however he is showing remorse for his behavior. The photo above is of the food that went spoiled and will be filed in our 'Hall of Shame'.

Homemade Pizza from Reader Bruss

Above we have another great photo from world traveler Bruss. He is currently in the United States and seems to have caught on to our lifestyle quickly and skillfully. The rumor was that all he ate was curry dishes - so this should finally put an end to those rumors.

Some Classy Cuisine: Dill Sauce Salmon Recipe

Our International correspondants have begun submitting more material and it is of the highest quality. Our man in Canada, Pierre, submits the above picture and the recipe as well. Nice clean looking plate, obviously an excellent meal. Plus look at all those napkins within arms reach - thats living.

Dill Sauce Salmon Recipe

Start with either skinless/boneless Salmon fillets or if preferred salmon steaks, Pacific or Atlantic salmon its your choice.

Prepare the salmon by placing on a couple sheets of aluminum foil, use enough foil to wrap the salmon after preparation. Salt & Pepper the salmon, lightly butter and add approximately 2 tsp of lemon juice onto each fillet.

Prepare the dill sauce by adding equal amounts (~2 TBS) of Sour Cream, Mayonnaise and Milk to a small bowl (prepare enough sauce so that each fillet is easily covered prior to cooking). Mix the contents of the bowl and add ~1tsp of Dill weed, crush the dill weed between two fingers to release more flavor as you add it to the bowl.

Using a spoon ladle out the sauce onto each fillet and spread evenly to cover the entire piece of fish. Top each fillet with a sprinkle of parsley and 1-2 thin slices of onion.

Fold over the tin foil bake at 350C in an oven for 15-20min (until cooked) or can be BBQ on upper grill. Serve with rice or potatoes and a vegetable of choice. ENJOY!

Reader Billmanweh has shared via photos his prep and results when he goes on a chili dog binge. "Lately, when I binge, this is what I go with. In a single day I can usually down eight of these along with a bag of doritos and a two liter bottle of coke. Nice work Bill. We should all strive to be more like you.

Junk Food Bender Last Night

Pictured above is the remains of the day from yesterday. Fp went on a bender. The beef jerky and the Curious George fruit snacks were the best part.

Breaking News: Walmart Cookies Warning

Longtime reader Crab has informed us that the above pictured cookies from Walmart can be a problem. "Yesterday me and my sister saw these cookies at Walmart. We thought they would be a good treat after a nice eat, however they ended up being a mistake! WARNING will cause bloating of the lower abdomine and relief of gassious pressures. They run for a little over $9 at Walmart. The FatPride Times is proud to break this story and is also shocked at the sticker price of 9 dollars as well. Shame on you Walmart!

U.S. is Getting Fatter - Except in Oregon?

The Trust for America's Health has just released its Obesity U.S.A. by State Index. Every state had a raise in their obesity rates, except Oregon. The FatPride Times is based out of Oregon and has to question the methodology used in this research. I have seen things here. Mississippi had the highest rate of obesity, with 29.5 percent of adults classified as obese in 2004. In Colorado, the slimmest state, just 16 percent of adults are obese. Oregon was unchanged at 21 percent.

Beenie Weenie JPG Challenge Winner

Reader Kit has made history on the internet tonight by contributing the first pictures of this fine product before any other reader. The FatPride Times extends thanks and congratulations for her fine effort in this extremely competitive challenge we issued. Unfortunately, we did not really have a prize offered for the winner but we will find someway to reward her victory. Soon, The FPT will be launching a subsite that will be a tribute to Beenie Weenie, stay posted for more info.

Low-Carb 6 Dollar Burger - Ok Now I Get It

Sampling foodstuffs and reporting back upon them is one of the many things the staff here at the FPT headquarters do. However, we are on a limited budget (please see: visit our sponsors links post) and when we often use a two-fer coupon when avauilable to stretch our funds. Last night, we came into possesion of a 2 for the price of 1 coupon for "The Low-Carb 6 Dollar Burger" from Carl's Jr. restaurants. Of course, the 6 dollar burgers actually cost between 4.19 and 4.99 as the name is just a marketing gimmick. Knowing that this premium line of burgers uses only Angus beef we did not think deeply about what we were ordering. What makes this burger low-carb? Well, it does not have a bun. It comes wrapped in huge lettuce leaves, huge as in you could take them off and make a small salad with them. Upon arriving in our food-testing arena we contemplated how to eat them. With the first one, we grabbed two slices of bread, peeled off some layers of the lettuce wrap and went traditional style and it was very tasty. The second one wrapped in foil for later consumption. After awhile we went back for the second one and decided to just mack it with the lettuce wrap. The burger was cold by then and actually was better than the first. So in conclusion, the FatPride Times does endorse this burger, however the proper way to eat these is after they are cold. When they are cold, the parts stay together better and having a lettuce bun doesnt seem so odd after all.

The Internet: Beanie Weenie Free

We at The FatPride Times are huge fans of the classic canned "Beanie Weenie" which is beans and coin sized hot dog slices in a tomato sauce. It comes in cans with the user-friendly pull-top lid. The staff here at FPT has spent the last 48 hours surfing and searching the web for an image of the real thing. There are zero images of this product on the web. Do you know how many images there are of people having sexual relations involving animals on the web. I dont know myself, but I am sure there are countless - yet not one image of Beanie Weenie. Tomorrow we will purchase a can and post the first picture of this classic on the internet. If you would like to prove me incorrect, please send a URL.

Jalapeno Hot Means Hot

The FatPride Times is constantly exploring new foodstuffs to expand our horizons. Yesterday, we tried a product called "Hood's Hot Jalapeno Korn Kurls". Based on all the foods we have tried that are so called 'hot' - we went in with the assumption they would have a little spark of heat. Holy Moses, these little bastards are hotter than anything I have ever tried. After 10 or so, I pounded a soda and still had the burn in my mouth. These guys live up to their claim, and The FatPride Times is pleased to endorse their product.

Quantity Speed Eating: Is It A Sport?

As you probably have noticed the latest round of eating contests has been getting some heavy press. From allheadlinenews.com "Tokyo, Japan (AHN) - Japan has got a new speed-eater. The country's champion speed-eater has won his second contest in two days by eating 100 roasted pork buns in 12 minutes in Hong Kong.

Takeru Kobayashi, Japan's new speed-eater champion, ate twice as many buns as the first runner-up, Johnny Wu, who only managed to down 47.

From Mail & Guardian Online - A week after she gorged on bratwurst and grilled-cheese sandwiches, one of the world's top competitive eaters gobbled down 44 lobsters in 12 minutes on Saturday to set a new speed-eating record.

Sonya Thomas, who weighs 44,5kg, humbled her bigger male competitors as she consumed 5,13kg of lobster meat, breaking the old record of 4,43kg she set last year.

I have heard arguments that these contests should be classified as actual 'sports', which The FatPride Times does not endorse. This is not sport by definition. I am not sure what to classify eating contests as, but they are just sideshows or events. Your comments are requested.

Healthy Choice Brand Frozen Product Problems

A reader has sent along a photo of a Healthy Choice frozen dinner that was bought and found to be rancid. In the photo it is still wrapped as the smell was quite pungent. This box was dated best if used by July 27 2006. I have also experienced some nasty Healthy Choice frozen meals, and then pondered why they were on sale for such a low price at that time. Once I purchased a "Budget Gourmet" frozen meal and when I peeled off the lid there was a coupon printed upon it that had expired over a year ago from the date I purchased it. Like the Healthy Choice meal, it was on sale for a very low price. Somethings not right here people.

Bay Shrimp Battle: Safeway easily defeats Albertson's

We at the FatPride Times have been on a weekend long shrimp binge as both Safeway and Albertson's had competing sales going. The Safeway shrimp were far superior, The Albertson's had that funny little twang to them. Something wasn't right with those shrimp. So,. while we have been bagging on Safeway for their filthy, horrid shopping carts, they do deserve some recognition for quality shrimp.

FP's Shrimp Salad Deluxe V2.1

After making up my shrimp salad tonight, I thought a photo would be cool to show you all how good it is. I simply combine shredded lettuce, bay shrimp, chopped purple onion, chopped pepper jack cheese and slap some pasta salad on the side. Easy and pure in the summer.

Nocturnal Eating Syndrome (Sleep-Related Eating)

Last night I had an incident that has caused me much duress and had me researching all morning. I awoke in the kitchen, sitting in a chair as i droppped and broke a glass full of ice and lemonade. I do not recall how I got there. After a few seconds, I came to realize that it was the middle of the night and I had prepared a salad with corn and cheese and a bagel sandwich. I had eaten the salad and was 1/2 wat thru the bagel sandwich (see photo) when i dropped my glass and was awoken. Apparently, this is a known disorder and is considered a parasomnia, and is a rare type of sleepwalking, a disorder of arousal. People with this disorder experience recurrent episodes of eating during sleep, without being aware of what they are doing. Sleep-related eating might occur often enough to result in significant weight gain. Although it can affect all ages and both sexes, it is more common in young women. I will continue my research and report back more info. Be careful people.

Warning: Do Not Eat These Canned Jalapenos

Longtime reader Kit has informed the FP times that the can of jalapeno peppers pictured above is not fit for eating. Kit says: "I shoulda got the ones in the jar I could see, these had like carrots and other parts in it, not the kewl round slices, as these are the lips and assholes of the peppers, like a low grade hot dog" and also "wanna see what your insides look like? eat these and they will come out". People, this is sound advice please follow. FP Times thanks Kit for reporting the problemm and encourages other readers to contact us when they encounter bad foodstuffs so we can inform the community.

Canadian Safeway Carts Nice & Clean

Bottle Return in USA is Messy Business but not so in Canada. I’ve heard from the FatPride Times that in the US when you purchase a Safeway brand soda or similar beverage from the empty can or bottle can only be returned to a Safeway store. This causes all sorts of problems as customers will use the Safeway carts to transport the cans to the recycling area usually located in the back of the store. Remnants from the cans spill onto the plastic carts attracting dirt and crime, thusly making your trip to purchase food very unpleasant. Canada uses an organization named 'Bottle Depot' to handle the returning of beverage containers for deposit refund. The government owns some, most are private businesses however.

- Pierre Dubord aka the Jackball

Canadian Reader Endorses The Tortilla!

The FatPride Times Canadian correspondant Luger has written to endorse all the goodness that is a tortilla. Luger recommends the whole wheat version with flax seeds and no saturated fat. He also recommends filling one with tomato and cheese and just about anything. He told his local market that he will no longer eat bread, only tortillas!

Filthy Shopping Carts of Safeway Stores

The FatPride Times is calling upon all readers to visit their local safeway and look at the nastiness that is their carts. Their carts are made of a strange plastic material that seems to be a magnet for filth. Locally, the Safeway stores have the bottle/can return machines inside the stores (way in the back), which leads to people loading carts up with nasty beer & beverage containers. This in turn leads to sticky nasty carts. When im gonna put my foodstuffs in a cart, I want it to be clean. I dont think this much to ask. I personally saw the General Manager one day and made a comment to him about the problem. He told me that he had a cleaning crew coming that night to clean them (coincidence or bullshit?). The FP Times is asking all readers to speak up to management if they have this problem. Together we are strong!

Poppi's Anatolia - Eugene, Oregon - 5-Stars

Poppi'a Anatolia (10th & Willamette St. Eugene Oregon), As a gyros afficianado, delis and restauarants such as this are always in my scopes while traveling. Poppi's Anatolia is a landmark in Eugene, serving Greek and Mediterranian food for well over a decade.

Lunch today consisted of a Mythos bottled beer, which was a full bouquet of earthy flavors you would expect from a pale lager, and a hint at fruit after-tastes.

For an appetizer we had the saganaki(peppered Kassari cheese fried in olive oil), which I have found to be unparallelled. They won't set it ablaze in front of you, but it is the tastiest dish this side of the Pacific Ocean. Having sampled this dish in many a big city, I can say that this is the best I have ever had. For the main course, the gyros sandwich was the natural choice. The beef and lamb served here is not your average pressed product, it is sublime. The spices are so perfectly embedded in the mix that you will be left swaying a nd speechless. The tzatziki sauce is also special here, with a sharp flavor, yet cooled by the creaminess of the yogurt and cucumber blend. There is not a better meal to be had in Eugene. 5 GD stars. - Barnabus

It's called "Saucijs"

International reader Ben writes to show us one pretty nice looking sausage. "Look, this is part of my food that I ate just yesterday. It's called "saucijs" and it tastes just as delicious as it looks fat".

KFC BBQ Chicken Sandwich is a Scam

Quick note...I had a two for one coupon for these and they were the smallest most rancid thing I have gotten anywhere in a long long time. Spread the word.

Thanks for your support and well wishes!

The FatPride Times wishes to thank the 100's of readers who wrote me asking why the posts had stopped appearing. Last week did not go too well. First off, I fell going down the stairs and landed in a sitting position, serverely bruising my assbone. Then a couple of days later I did a complete faceplant when I tripped over a toolbox. I have been on the couch for a week. Of course, I ate well. Maybe better than usual as all I did was eat, watch some TV, read the paper and sleep - generally in that order. I have some contributions to post that have been sent in to me and will do that as soon as I get everything back on track. If you want to share any food stories, pictures, recipes or whatnot email to: fatprider@yahoo.com (please notice the r at the end of fatpride as some other motherscratcher allready had it).

LittleDebbie.Com - No It Is Not A Pron Site

After intensive googling I have got the skinny on these Little Debbie snack cakes that blew away the field in the snack poll. LittleDebbie.com tells and shows all, and unbelievably it is not a porno site, even though Im sure someone would love to explot that URL. Heres what I learned:

In 1960, McKee Foods founder O.D. McKee was trying to come up with a catchy name for their new family-pack cartons of snack cakes. Packaging supplier Bob Mosher suggested using a family member's name. Thinking of what could be a good fit for the brand, O.D. arrived at the name of his 4-year-old granddaughter Debbie. Inspired by a photo of Debbie in play clothes and her favorite straw hat, he decided to use the name Little Debbie® and the image of her on the logo. Not until the first cartons were being printed did Debbie's parents, Ellsworth and Sharon McKee, discover that their daughter was the namesake of the new brand.

The first family-pack was produced in August of that year and consisted of the original snack cake, the Oatmeal Creme Pie. Family-packs were one of the first multiple-item baked goods available with individually wrapped products. The cost per carton was only 49 cents. By combining a quality product with outstanding value, Little Debbie® quickly became a member of America's households. After its initial introduction, more than 14 million cakes were sold within 10 months. while the Oatmeal Creme Pie was the original Little Debbie® snack cake, there were 14 different varieties by 1964 including the ever-popular Nutty Bars® Wafer Bars and Swiss Cake Roll.

Since 1960, Little Debbie® products have remained a value leader. Currently, they sell for less than other leading brands while providing quality ingredients. More than 75 varieties are available with suggested retail prices ranging from 25 cents to $2.99. Little Debbie® products are available in all 50 states, Canada and Mexico

I will try to get a box of these today and give a de-briefing here on The FatPride Times ASAP.

Who & What Are Little Debbie Snack Cakes?

There is some controversy surrounding the snack poll again. I have received over twenty emails in the few hours since the results were made public. Little Debbie Snack Cakes clearly had the most votes, but who cast them and what the hell are they? I am going to explore the web for info on these snack cakes and report back. Hopefully this will explain the votes. Even if they were all cast by the same person, would that not mean he or she thinks they are really gd good? Either way Im gonna get me some of that.

Colossal Skewered Beach Prawns - WOW -

Reader Barnabus from the Northwest has shared a secret skewered shrimp cooking move with the FatPride Times. As seen below, he has colossal prawns on skeweres in the beach sand with fire behind. Very important to avoid wind, you might find proper location for success and avoiding sand blowing on the food. The second trick is the lemon wedge on the bottom of skewer, which keeps shrimps in place as they shrink up while under the flames. The nexus of this method involves triangulating the beach & sand, driftwood fires, and long metal skewers. Barnabus all told the FP Times that beach caves work well for this preparation as well as heating up rocks to make bread on.

Smoking It With Two Beef Briskets

FatPride Times reader DS is going whole hog tonight with a double beef brisket smokeout. The small one is 3 pounds and the big one is a nice 8 pounder. They will be cooked for just less than 24 hours at 200 -250 degrees before they get pulled off the fire. DS says watching the temperature is the key to success. This cookout is done with mesquite wood and is a very smokey project. Im told that after app. 24 hours the meat will melt in your mouth, you have to let it cool or it will fall apart. DS will be showing us the final results tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Teriyaki Chicken Over Rice With Ginger

Here is a look at one of the meals I will be eating tonight. This is the chicken over rice, this dish is nicknamed Bento. Its a fair portion for 5.00. Of course, this alone will not be enough to get me thru the night.

Cheetos Are Great However....

Late last night I was macking on some Cheetos and Diet Coke, halfway thru the bag I passed out in my chair. I awoke this morning, was at the MaxiMart buying coffee and then realized my fingers were totally orange from the cheese dust. Embarassing. I am going to email their corporate offices and ask if they might include one of those latex gloves inside the big bags. Also, my keyboard keys had to be de-oranged. Too much work. Something has to change.

Things Firmed Up

After suffering thru the morning with frequent restroom runs, I went out and got a whole bird and a pound of coleslaw. It has firmed me up. Solid movements are so easily taken for granted.

Loose Stool Wednesday

The FatPride Times wishes to give its fine readers some advice. I have come to the conclusion that cantaloupe and slimfast bars along with 3 bowls of chicken and dumplings may result in a loose stool festival the next morning. Fair warning.

Chicken and Dumplings Night!

Birds Are For Cooking - Not Fighting

The FatPride Times is coming out strongly against 'cockfighting' activities. Birds are here for watching fly and eating, not fighting and gambling. From CNN:

NEWPORT, Tennessee (AP) -- Law enforcement agents raided an illegal cockfight and arrested 144 people attending what one official said may have been one of the nation's largest such gatherings.

Several SWAT teams, helicopters and dozens of state troopers participated in the raid Saturday on the sprawling Del Rio Cockfight Pit. They seized about $40,000 in cash and killed more than 300 roosters.

Unbelievable.

Steak Picado Saturday

Wow...I just had an excellent plate of Steak Picado prepared by a real Mexican cook and I am busting. It was really exceptional. I found a new little place about a 10 minute drive from home and they have a huge menu of real authentic Mexican food. I will visit often.

Single Movement This Morning

Just wanted to report I had one nice bowel movement this morning - as expected. I think the Quiznos helped.

2 Bowel Movements This Morning

I havent written up much lately, I have been deeply involved in eating and powernapping last few days. However, something odd happened this morning. I had one bowel movement, then 30 minutes later I had yet another full-fledged movement. This is unique - it has never happened this way to me before. I am concerned as I munch this Quizno's sandwich I just got.

Orange Juice Is Not Fruit

I heard today that orange juice does not count as a serving of fruit - especially if you buy the no pulp kind like i do. All it is is sugar and witamin C. Back to the cantaloupes I guess.

Medical Study: Laughing Fights Fat

FROM CNN: ATHENS, Greece (AP) -- Dieters looking for another edge might want to consider exercising their sense of humor -- scientists have found that a good laugh is a calorie burner not to be ignored.

It may not be as good for reducing the waistline as going to the gym or resisting that ice-cream sundae, but American researchers have found that 10-15 minutes of genuine giggling can burn off the number of calories found in a medium square of chocolate.

50 Cents Bags of Cornuts Sale Over

Last night, I was out on a fogwalk looking to capture media of a/the Sasquatch (Bigfoot) and made my ususal stop at the local Mini-Mart halfway in. I always forget that they run their sales by the month. Last month they had big Powerades for 1.00 and Cornnuts for 50 cents a bag. I went in all set and ready for those items and discovered that it was June. I settled for some Orange Juice and some microwave popcorn and didn't have a Sasquatch sighting on the way home either. However, I recommend fogwalks for all Super-Sizers. It gives you a chance to get outside without people watching you.

Food Reviews: The Good, The Bad & The Nasty

Hello people, I have just returned from a three day stay watching a friend's dog and boy did I get a lot of eating and powernapping done. I had a lot to eat and am gonna start with the combo bucket for 9.99 from KFC. Its just chicken and breading. You would think with three kinds of styles they would taste different. They didnt. The popcorn chicken is 80% breading and nasty. The strips are just big pieces of the popcorn - bad. The regular homestyle chicken pieces were very good. If you are gonna go there get the 1.00 snackers. It takes about 3 or 4 to do ya up but they arent bad.
