Arch West Creator of Dorittos Passes Away

It is a sad day in the snack industry as the creator of Doritos Snack chips, Arch West, as passed away at the age of 97. Arch had come up with the idea for Doritos chips back in the early 60's when he realized the snack chip selections where very small and tasteless.

Archibald Clark West was born in Indianapolis on Sept. 8, 1914, he served as a gunnery officer in the Navy during World War II.

So next time you open a bag of Doritos, pour out a couple chips for out dead homie Mr. West..RIP

Osacr Mayer Versus Ball Park Franks... in Court

This week Kraft Foods the makers of Oscar Mayer hot dogs and Sara Lee the makers of Ball Park Franks begin a wiener sword fight in federal court over advertising allegations.

A big one to us here at the FPT is the usage of the term 100% beef. Kraft advertises that they have 100% Beef Franks....Sara Lee is disputing that claim. Sara Lee also claims that in taste tests, their product wasn't prepared or served properly.

Let us know how you feel and what your favorite hot dog is!!

Bacon Pancakes Why Didn't We Think of This Sooner?

Its a very simple idea, with huge results. First you fry up some bacon. Once it is crispy and cooled down, crumble into the pancakes on the skillet. Cook each side to a golden brown like a normal pancake. But this is no normal pancake...it has bacon in it!!!
To make this a more complete breakfast experience we added two eggs sunny side up...YUMM!!! You could add your eggs anyway you like, we decided on SSU.

Now that is one good looking meal. You got the bacon pancake, the nice runny egg and add some maple syrup to make it just right. Priders enjoy!!

Sonic Drive in to Serve Alcholic Beverages In Florida

Yes you read the headline correct. A drive in restaurant serving alcohol. A interesting concept and the FPT will be watching these developments. We have heard rumors that there is a Burger King in Florida that serves beer....we cannot confirm this rumor.

Priders on Location: George Washington's Estate, Mount Vernon, USA

One of our loyal followers sent in this recent story about his travels to the Nations Capital.

Recently I traveled to Washington DC to see some sites. One of the places visited was George Washington's estate, Mount Vernon, USA. The grounds are massive, and beautiful. The was the same. Though no pictures were permetted in the house i can say it was beautiful, and i imagine for its time it was unreal. We were however able to take pictures outside of the house, and lucky for us Priders thats where the kitchen, and all the food was kept! They kept the kitchen seperate in case of fire and for some other reasons i can't seem to remember. Onto the photos!

This is a view G Dubs house, the white building under the trees on the far right is the kitchen....

Here it is.... George Washington's kitchen...

A room off the kitchen .... looks like bird for tonight!!

And the final stop on the tour... The Smokehouse! This sign is more informative the me...

And a view inside the smokehouse. Look at all them meats!

Chelsea Chowder House on the Queen Mary in Long Beach California

The Fat Pride Times is back!! Sorry to our loyal readers but the staff was given a mandatory vacation for everyone to spend time with their families and clear their heads. With heads cleared and bellies empty, our crew is back and ready to bring you food news you can use.

We make a epic comeback with a great seafood meal from Chelsea Chowder House aboard the awesome Queen Mary Ocean Liner in the Long Beach Harbor. The Queen Mary sailed the seas for over 30 years and sailed its last voyage on October 31st 1967 to Long Beach where it has sat ever since. There are many reports of this ship being haunted....we will tell that story at another time.

First up is the Firecracker Shrimp appetizer. 5 large shrimps served with a coleslaw and a tangy cocktail sauce. Good for a starter, nice big shrimps.

Now for the entrees....The Drunken New Orleans Shrimp.....Jumbo shrimp cooked a in dark beer Cajun sauce. These where awesome!! The Mac and Cheese side, with the garlic mash was the hat trick.

On the other side of table, we have a steamed lobster kettle with red bliss potatoes, corn, Andouille Sausage, and Chelsea's special seasoning. Another home run with this dish if you enjoy lobster at its finest.

We suggest if you are in Southern California that you visit the Queen Mary. Take a tour of the ship, come in for a drink or a bite and enjoy yourself!

Bacon Wrapped Jalapeno Poppers

Here we have a great food idea sent in my Norm in South Carolina. Here at the FPT test we had to try it out for ourselves. Start with a few jalapenos, cut the stem off and hollow them out with a peeler. Get out all of the seeds and white stuff inside. Be careful not to puncture the pepper. Next take some taco seasoned ground beef and cream cheese and mash the two together. Once you have a nice meaty cheese combo, cram that into the hollowed out jalapenos. Being careful not to split the pepper. Once you have done that wrap each pepper in a slice of bacon. Now put them in the oven and bake at 375 until the bacon is cooked. Be careful because the inside of the pepper will be very hot right out of the oven.

5 Guys Burgers Coming to a City Near You

5 Guys Burgers is sweeping the nation from Boston to Vegas with a simple, easy burger and fry menu. One of our readers made the statement that "5 Guys is like the In-n-Out of the East Coast. Now we here at the FPT fully endorse In-n-Out burgers and think they are one of the better fast food burgers around. As you can see the inside is a lot like a classic burger joint. Burgers and frys being prepared right after you order. Not sure if all 5 Guys locations are without a drive thru. In this day and age of mobile lifestyles, the FPT thinks a drive thru is very important to the consumer. The normal 5 Guys burger comes as a double. One big difference from In-n-Out is the selection of condiments you can add to your burger. Here is a quick list...
* Mayo * Relish * Onions * Lettuce * Pickles * Tomatoes * Grilled Onions * Grilled Mushrooms * Ketchup * Mustard * Jalapeno Peppers * Green Peppers * A.1.® Steak Sauce * Bar-B-Q Sauce * Hot Sauce
A lot of great options for a hamburger. Expect 5 Guys to be extremely busy the first few months that it opens in your area. We heard about wait times of 30 min from entering the building and finally receiving your meal.

Motor City Chili Downtown Henderson Nevada

Our mobi reporter from Las Vegas has sent us a picture of some chili dogs from the new Motor City Chili in Henderson, Nevada. Motor City Chili is authentic Detroit. All of the food is imported from the Motor City....the sausages, chili, soda, chips, everything! Very small menu selection....but you don't come to Motor City Chili for a veggie wrap....no way!! Get the dog with extra chili, onions and mustard, and wash it down with a Faygo soda, direct from Detroit!

NEW Queso Jalapeno Ruffles 99 Cent Bag

The FPT received this photo of new bag of snack pack bag of chips. This photo comes to us from somewhere deep in the Arizona desert where there seems to be two languages spoken. Sources here cannot completely confirm the alternative language but we imagine it means good.

It has come to light that the Coke recipe may have been finally revealed to the public. The FPT found this video with what seems to be the original recipe for the soda, as well as a great dance club mix of the Coke song.

EtathaD Colorado Snowboard Trip Part 1 Back Country Provisions Steamboat Springs

One of our loyal readers Etathad recently vistited Colorado and has some food reports for us. His first stop was at Back Country Provisions in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

"I recently traveled from the hills of West Virginia to the mountains of Colorado for a bit of snowboarding action. Aside from snowboarding i also found time to visit some natural hot springs, sample several local beers, and of course enjoy several delicious meals. I had numerous sushi platters, and 2 meals containing buffalo. I will discuss some of these meals in the near future, but today i would like to focus on a lunch spot in Steamboat Springs Colorado.

Steamboat Springs is a beautiful town and it seems no matter where you are around town Steamboat Ski resort is always in view, and what a beautiful view it is.

One of my favorite lunch spots on the trip was called Back Country Provisions. This is a very cool little deli shop with an extensive menu of delicious specialty sammiches and soups. I went with a sammich called The Summit - Smoked Ham, french brie cheese, honey cured bacon, cranberry chutney, romaine, and chipotle mayo. Served with a pickle on the side.

First off i was a bit concerned about the cranberry chutney because that just doesn't sound like something i would eat, but GD it really complimented the other ingredients on the sammich and added to the over flavor in a very positive way! The sammich was a decent size but not too big that you felt over stuffed after eating it. It was not cheap, costing 7.95, however everything was very fresh and when traveling i always expect my meals to be a bit pricey. And this mafer was well worth it! If you are in the Steamboat area i would definitely suggest stopping by Back Country Provisions in downtown Steamboat and trying one of their signature sammiches!"

Taco Bell President Talks About Meatgate Allegations

We felt here at the FPT that this was a very important topic to address. "Meatgate" as we call it here with Taco Bell and the allegations that they are not using 100% beef in their menu items. We have acquired a video of the President of Taco Bell talking about the issue. We here at FPT feel you should make you own decision on the "Meatgate". Until we have hard evidence proving either whether or not the allegations are true, we cannot make a conclusion.

Chicken and Waffle Plate Syrup Gravy Butter YUMM!!!

These images where sent in by an anonymous source last night, so we do not know a whole lot about this meal. We have confirmed there is a waffle, with gravy, syrup, butter and what looks to be a chicken breast. Once this waffle is closed, looks to make a great meal. We hope to hear more from the sender of these photos.

The Intimidator Challange at Lumpys Dinner

The Fat Pride Times recently came across this video of Lumpys Dinner in Antioch, California. As you can see from the video, the Intimidator is one large pile of goodness from cheese to bacon, chicken fried steak patty AND hamburger patty with gravy and so much more. We would like to know of any of the FPT readers would try this challenge? The FPT is looking for sponsor one lucky person to go to Lumpys and give a live report, maybe with mobi versions.

Harrys Five Star BBQ Restaurant on Las Vegas Blvd.

This most recent submission was sent in by a new reader Jerome J. of Danielsville, GA. Jerome was in Las Vegas over the weekend and found a great new soul food, BBQ joint on the Las Vegas Strip. "Harrys Five Star BBQ is a great new place in Las Vegas for lunch for dinner.", Jerome says. Jerome ordered the pulled pork samiches....yes that's even how its spelled on the menu! The pulled pork samiches come with fries, potato salad or coleslaw. He also ordered a side of mac and cheese, for good times sake.

Jerome suggests checking out Harry's Five Star in Las Vegas, next time you are in town. He should know, coming from the south he knows what real BBQ ribs and other BBQ foods should taste like
