Poppi's Anatolia - Eugene, Oregon - 5-Stars

Poppi'a Anatolia (10th & Willamette St. Eugene Oregon), As a gyros afficianado, delis and restauarants such as this are always in my scopes while traveling. Poppi's Anatolia is a landmark in Eugene, serving Greek and Mediterranian food for well over a decade.

Lunch today consisted of a Mythos bottled beer, which was a full bouquet of earthy flavors you would expect from a pale lager, and a hint at fruit after-tastes.

For an appetizer we had the saganaki(peppered Kassari cheese fried in olive oil), which I have found to be unparallelled. They won't set it ablaze in front of you, but it is the tastiest dish this side of the Pacific Ocean. Having sampled this dish in many a big city, I can say that this is the best I have ever had. For the main course, the gyros sandwich was the natural choice. The beef and lamb served here is not your average pressed product, it is sublime. The spices are so perfectly embedded in the mix that you will be left swaying a nd speechless. The tzatziki sauce is also special here, with a sharp flavor, yet cooled by the creaminess of the yogurt and cucumber blend. There is not a better meal to be had in Eugene. 5 GD stars. - Barnabus
