Doritos: First, Second, & Third Degree Burn Chips - Jalapeno, Buffalo Sauce & Habanero

Doritos has launched a sizzling new line of HOT chips - and they are labeled appropriately. They come in 3 degrees of "Burn" - First Degree Burn Blazin' Jalapeno, Second Degree Burn Buffalo Sauce & Third Degree Burn Scorchin' Habanero.

Long time staffer Franklin spotted these new chips on a coffee run and made the common mistake of thinking that 3rd degree burn means was the bottom of the scale with 1st degree burns being the hottest. Actually, as you may know - it is the exact opposite.

Team FPT sat down at our roundtable and we all tried one chip each from the 3rd Degree Burn Doritos bag he had bought for us. Not prepared - we had no water or anything handy to mitigate the heat damage to our mouthes from just one chip. Upon getting beverage as quickly as possible - we realized this was not enough to mask the lingering burn in our mouthes. We turned to eating Mini-Charleston Chews and anything that might calm the fire mouth feeling. It took an average of 10 minutes of eating, drinking and teeth/mouth brushing to get our mouthes and tongue back to a normal state.

These chips are for the truly hardcore heat people - we could not and did not want another of these 3rd degree burn chips. You think you can handle these - if you cant find them locally in your region, the FPT is offering to send anyone two of these chips for free to try. We have 2/3 of a bag sitting here and no one on the staff is interested in going thru all that again. Email us for your free 2 chip sample via regular mail.

My Wife and I have been to 64 gas stations and convenience stores in the last 3 days in my area (I live in Milwaukee, WI) looking for 2nd and 3rd Degree Burn. All I find is rows and rows and rows and rows of 1st Degree, which was weak.

It would kick ass to get a sample of 2nd and 3rd Degree Burn...

I just bought a bag of First and Second Degree, did not know there was a Third Degree - must look for them. If it's anything like Fiery Habenero, which I enjoy with Tabasco, it could be good.

Hey wait, so are these like the just straight habanero Doritos offered in some other markets which don't have the burn degree series? Oh and just a little fun thing about doritos, I got to try the X-13D doritos that would later be become the Late Night Cheeseburger Doritos!

We found the 3rd degree in a gas station on Airport Boulevard in Warwick, RI. I tried to buy a box full to ship back to the UK but they only had what was on display.

We got some 2nd degree in a 7/11 on Michigan Avenue, Chicago near the Water Tower and in a convenience store on Toulouse St, New Orleans, just near the crossroads with Bourbon St.

If only they had them in the UK...

i just ate a bag of first degrees, and i was literally crying, its a different kind of hot, i use a hotsauce made from habaneros like its spaghetti sauce, and it doesnt even affect me, but these things, they are fucking hot. im going to blow my nose now XD also dont brush your teeth afterward, not a good idea

Walking through a CVS one day I saw 2nd degree and had to try it since I love all thing buffalo flavored - wowwie, it was hot but I loved it! A few weeks later I found 1st degree and had to try them too, just out of curiousity - woo, even 1st degree was spicy! Yesterday I finally found 3rd degree - OMG I thought my mouth was on fire, but I loved every minute of it! :)

Imagine my surprise when I was browsing a Safeway in Medford today (10/14/10).... and came across all three flavors in the big bags!!! I immediately grabbed a 3rd degree which I had been so desperate to try, along with 2nd degree... this is so great! The 3rd degree has a bit of a raw spice flavor to it... they're better than the Fiery Habanero flavor!

Anonymous said...

they wernt that hot i kinda think that second degree burn was hotter.. lol

Anonymous said...

found these 3rd degree chips in a convenience store in Silver City, NM....pretty damn near the hottest thing I've ever eaten and I've eaten blazing hot Indian curries in London where they don't mess around...only thing hotter was the spicy scungilli at Vincent's Restaurant in Greenwich Village...only thing that cooled me down was some yogurt, had to eat it after every bite. Hot Dam.

Anonymous said...

I can challenge eating whole bag in just 5 mins....no water either.

Anonymous said...

They're everywhere now. Every gas station has the little bags. I honestly don't think 2nd & 3rd are any hotter than the 1st. They just have more orange stuff on them. I love the 1st! They are awesome. However, I have yet to see them in big bags. I'm sure they're waiting to see how popular they get before they release the full bag. So keep eating them so they do.

But, if anyone knows if they do sell the big bags, please let me know......Thanks!

Tried them today. They're definitely hot but not too crazy as depicted in the article. I would say that some pork tacos with habanero sauce in southern Mexico are ORDERS of magnitude hotter than this synthetic stuff, but nevertheless, they're probably the hottest chips you can purchase in the U.S xD.

I just tried the Second Degree flavor. It was good, but not as hot as the hottest chips I have had.

I will have to give the Third Degree flavor a shot when I see it. Cheers.

Hey Guys...just found these at Shoppers Drugmart Canada and with a little drink (pop) these are quite enjoyable. Mind you I've only had the one bag of 2nd degree (Buffalo Sauce) haven't gotten to the 3rd Degree (habanero) yet.

joanne said...

joanne said...

I dont know but I just tried the second degree and I think they were broken or something , a defective bag maybe, I need hotter

Anonymous said...

Seriously? C'mon, these are Doritos we're talking about.

Yes they're hot but they're by no means too hot to handle.

I've had a tough time finding the 3rd degree as well. Tried the 2nd degree, they are pretty good, start out sweet then you get the spice after. Lips started burning after half the ind. bag but nothing unmanageable. The reps for the store I work at (Canada) said they are not the greatest sellers so they will be fairly tough to find. Good luck to those searching :-)

saw them at 7-11, hot. not digging the jalapeno so much, i like the buffalo and habanero flavours more, but fear it may be way too hot for me.

I love the 3rd degree burn doritos chips but they are no longer sold in my area...I know because I called the company and asked if I can buy them through them and the only way I can get them is through a couple of websites and, of course, neither site sells them so I am royally screwed out of my favorite chips. Not very happy
